Liverpool moved past the Champions League group stage by winning all six of their qualifying matches, including both against familiar old European rival AC Milan.
After playing against the Italian giants at the San Siro and winning 2-1 earlier this month, Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has impressed one player in particular.
Ibrahima Konate, in place of Virgil van Dijk, entered the heart of Liverpool’s defense and produced an outstanding performance throughout the 90 minutes. Although the Red Devils still conceded a goal, they achieved a final victory at a stadium known for the difficulty of finishing their group matches.
“I asked to exchange shirts with Liverpool defender Konate,” Ibrahimovic said.
“He has won all battles with me on the ground and in the air. I told him that he would be a great defender in the future and that he is [should] Remember my words well.”
Having Konate in the squad would be very beneficial for the Reds, especially as they face the usual winter crowds. This time last season when injuries effectively dismantled Liverpool’s defense. Hopefully, another trusted player to add to the mix will prevent a repeat of that fate this time around.
