Former Indian captain and legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar has scored as many as 100 international hundreds during his 24-year-long career at the highest level for India. But out of those 100, his century against Kenya in Bristol during the 1999 World Cup match was one of the most special ones. The premier batsman was going through a personal tragedy but still managed to hit the ground and score a memorable hundred, which he dedicated to his late father, who left for heavenly adobe only a few days back.
Sachin was with the Indian team in England preparing for the World Cup when he came to know about his father’s demise. And after that, the 26-year-old Sachin left immediately to attend his father’s funeral. However, a few days back, he rejoined the team in England, and in the first match against Kenya he scored an unbeaten century, which he dedicated to his late father.

In that all-important group stage match against the African side, Sachin came to bat as a number four batter after opener Sadagoppan Ramesh’s departure in the 21st over and remained at the crease till the end of 50 overs. He added 237 runs for the third wicket with former Indian captain and now head coach Rahul Dravid (104 not out from 109 balls) and helped India post a total of 329 runs on the board for the loss of two wickets.

During his stay at the crease, the Master Blaster faced 101 balls and, with the help of 16 fours and 3 sixes, hammered 140 not out. After reaching the three-figure mark, he raised his bat and dedicated his hundred to his father.

Sachin was too emotional after his father’s sudden death, and he only returned when his family insisted he play in the World Cup. Sachin helped India reach the Super Six stage of the tournament. In Sachin’s absence, India had suffered a shock defeat against Zimbabwe, and therefore, the game against Kenya was a must-win fixture for India, and the legendary batter did just enough to revive India’s campaign.
