Todd Bowles Admits Bucs Will Study Potential Trades For Offensive Line

August 28th, 2022

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

It doesn’t seem, judging the tone of voice Bucs coach Todd Bowles spoke in today, that the Bucs are hot in the pants to cough up a barrel full of collateral for an offensive lineman.

But if an inexpensive one happens to be dangling …

The Bucs are ravaged by injuries to the offensive line and the regular season hasn’t started yet. While Bowles can readily admit the Bucs cannot more injuries, it seems Bowles is inclined to wait for medical test results on centers Robert Hainsey and Nick Leverett before making a panic move.

Both Hainsey and Leverett were injured in last night’s final preseason game at Indianapolis. Bowles said the team got back late last night and bot players are still undergoing tests. Hainsey has had X-rays completed but Bowles said he hasn’t spoken with trainers yet about the results.

That suggests to Joe there isn’t any structural damage to Hainsey’s ankle. If there was, you’d think a trainer would have at least texted Bowles that intel.

So Bowles was asked point blank if the Bucs were looking to make a move at offensive line since this year is an all-in season. He didn’t deny the Bucs would be fishing to see what’s biting.

“There is not a sense of urgency unless we lose the two that went down yesterday,” Bowles said. “You have to have someone willing to give you a good football player [in a trade]. Nobody is going to give you a good football player. Nobody is going to feel sorry for you.

“We are going to look at the wave wire. We are going to look at certain trades to see if we can find some things out there. But if there is nothing out there, we still have some guys that can play.

“Again, we will wait for the [test] results [of Hainsey and Leverett] and see where these two guys are. And we will move on from there.”

So there you have it. So if you see rumors on Twitter in the coming days that the Bucs are talking to [X-team] about [Y-offensive lineman]that is a good sign the test results on Hainsey and/or Leverett aren’t promising.
