Talent aplenty in CWC22 Most Valuable Team

Trying to squeeze just 11 players into the Upstox Most Valuable Team at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup is a challenge within itself.

There are so many quality players to choose from and so many different teams represented that it may come down to who is your favourite player in each position.

CHOOSE YOUR UPSTOX MOST VALUABLE TEAM HERE

Take the batters for example, do you plump for the ever-consistent Australia left-hander Rachael Haynes at the top of the order?

Or is Laura Woolvaardt’s stylish cover drive enough to make sure the South Africa opener is selected? Fans on the sub-continent may prefer India’s left-hander Smriti Mandhana?

Australia captain Meg Lanning and South Africa skipper Sune Luus will be popular selections at first and second drop, although India’s Harmanpreet Kaur and Bangladesh star Fargana Hoque must come into consideration for the minimum of four batters that must be selected.

Just when you think you’ve got the batters sorted, you find the even more difficult task of choosing a minimum of five bowlers in your XI.

Do you go for experience with Kiwi seamer Lea Tahuhu or South Africa quick Shabnim Ismail or do you opt for a spin-heavy team?

There’s a bevy of top-quality spinners available for selection, including England’s Sophie Ecclestone, Pakistan’s Nashra Sundhu, Australia’s Alana King and India’s Rajeshwari Gayakwad.

Wicket: Gayakwad breaks through for India

Seamers Ayabonga Khaka of South Africa and Meghna Singh of India are also available, while England spinner Charlie Dean and Kiwi tweaker Frankie Mackay round out the 10 bowlers available to pick.

At least choosing the wicketkeeper is easy, well in theory that is as there’s only three keepers available to choose from.

Do you select the experience of Australia’s Alyssa Healy or New Zealand’s Katey Martin, or has West Indian Shermaine Campbelle caught your eye at the tournament with her 177 runs and three catches.

Choosing which all-rounders to include is a tough ask, with so many quality players who performed near their best during the tournament available for selection.

West Indies duo Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin would not look out of place in your team, but experienced pair Ellyse Perry and Marizanne Kapp are consistent performers that can always be relied upon.

England’s Nat Sciver was a bit of a quiet achiever at the tournament, while India pair Pooja Vastrakar and Sneh Rana performed well with bat and ball.

Rounding out the possible all-rounder selections are Amelia Kerr and Amy Satterthwaite and, while New Zealand may not have had the tournament they desired, these two talented players can hold their heads high for their efforts.
