Ramesh Powar will continue as the head coach of the India women’s cricket team as he has a year left in his contract. Powar, who took over last the head coach of the senior women’s team for the 2nd time in May last year, was handed a 2-year contract.

Ramesh Powar will continue to oversee the India women’s team even after the disappointing early exit from the World Cup. MIthali Raj’s side was knocked out from the showpiece event as early as the round-robin group stages.

Powar was appointed as the head coach for the 2nd time in May 2021. He had replaced former India opener WV Raman. A three-member Cricket Advisory Committee comprising Sulakshana Naik, Madan Lal and RP Singh had conducted interviews before appointing Powar.

Contrary to reports from last month, Powar was handed a 2-year contract.

Meanwhile, BCCI officials discussed the disappointing World Cup performance with the team management and head coach Powar, a source close to the BCCI told India Today.

“Yes, there was discussion and the team and the coaching department have been asked to strengthen the performance. Whatever possible facilities or tournaments are required will be given to them. For us (BCCI), both teams are equal. Yes, there was a bit of disappointment when they lost the South Africa game and had to leave the World Cup early but it is a game and winning and losing are part of the game,” the source said.
