‘Novak Djokovic can miss a shot and…’, says top coach

2022 was a flurry of emotions for Novak Djokovic. The former world number 1 paid dearly for his choice not to vaccinate against the Coronavirus, not having been able to defend the title at the Australian Open at the beginning of the year.

The Australian soap opera also caused him serious damage to his image, with inevitable repercussions in the following months. For the same reason, the Serbian phenomenon also had to give up the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and Miami in the spring.

The 35-year-old from Belgrade hoped to redeem himself at Roland Garros, but his race was already interrupted in the quarterfinals against his eternal rival Rafael Nadal. Nole came to Wimbledon with a lot of pressure on his shoulders, as his season was in danger of taking on the contours of failure.

The ‘Djoker’ did not play a flawless tournament, but proved to be the best in the decisive moments and took home his seventh championships title. The Belgrade has shortened the gap that separates him from Nadal in the all-time Grand Slam standings, waiting to know if he will be able to fly to the United States or not.

During an interview with ‘La Repubblica’, Goran Ivanisevic spoke at length about his relationship with Djokovic.

Ivanisevic talks about Djokovic

After revealing that Novak Djokovic could possibly play the US Open thanks to a special visa, his coach, Goran Ivanisevic, also spoke about the special relationship he has with his player in an interview with La Repubblica.

And according to Goran, it’s not easy every day: “For example, in training, he can miss a shot and go completely crazy, he is able to change his mood at any time. It takes time and patience to find a balance. At first I was shy and didn’t know how to handle it.

I realized that sometimes it was better to keep calm and not tell him. In our relationship, it helps that we speak the same language and have this Slavic culture. With all that, it’s an honor to be his coach.” Djokovic is training for the US Open 2022.

However, his participation hasn’t been confirmed yet because of his vaccination status. Earlier this year, the player was not allowed to play at the Australian Open 2022 and most of the hard-court season that followed the Grand Slam Down Under due to the same reason. But that has not diminished the hopes of the Serbian who hopes to play at Flushing Meadows later this month.
