NFL Week 12 injury update

After a Thanksgiving day filled with football and dining, the remaining 22 NFL teams prepare for their respective games with injuries in mind for the Week 13 roster.

The Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens face both quarterbacks with ailments. The struggling Atlanta Falcons attacker is hoping to get Cordarelli Patterson back after injuring his ankle nearly two weeks ago. Also, Zach Wilson is back under the New York Jets center while the rest of the signal callers are on COVID-19 protocols.

Some of the positive developments from the injury include midfielder Aaron Rodgers continuing to play despite a broken toe. Another important Green Bay Packers player could be back, as Aaron Jones returned to training on Wednesday. In addition, the Washington Soccer team has revitalized Logan Thomas from the injured reserve after he has been out since October 6 with a hamstring injury, opening the door for him to return to the field this week.

Our NFL reporters are back for another week of updates and information on the availability of key players for their games.

Injury: ankle
Patterson is again in doubt with an ankle injury after training on a limited basis all week. He tried last week for a pre-game warm-up against New England but was deemed inactive – and has 10 days since to work through it. The Hawks have not scored a point with Patterson outside the past six quarters and desperately need his return to the squad. If Patterson can’t go, see plenty of Mike Davis and Wayne Gallman – with Caleb Huntley or Qadree Olison as potential claims to the coaching staff. While Olison ran well against New England, all week he missed training to deal with a disease other than COVID-19.

Another note: The Hawks have also listed linebacker Deion Jones (shoulder) as questionable, and it would be a huge loss mid-defense. – Michael Rothstein

Injury: disease
Jackson is set to start Sunday night after not being included in the injury report. He has been fully involved in all three training sessions this week after missing the last game due to illness. Jackson has a 4-1 mark against Brown with a total of 85.8 quarterly. This is the second highest total QBR for any midfielder against a single opponent since the metric was first tracked in 2006. “Lamar is back on point,” wide receiver Sammy Watkins said. “He throws the ball really well. He’s moving. I feel like we’ve really improved since he came back.”

Injury: thigh
Brown looks set to come back after being a surprise scratcher in Sunday’s 16-13 win over Chicago. He was limited in practice all week, but ran really well, especially on the deep roads. In two games against Browns last season, Browns had seven catches for 151 yards and one touchdown. – Jamison Hensley

Injury: neck
Jackson briefly left the November 14 loss to the Eagles with an injury but came back to finish the match. However, after saying goodbye to the team, he did not train this week, and after training on Friday, coach Vic Fangio said Jackson would be officially listed as a suspect in Sunday’s game against the Chargers. Rookie Caden Sterns will start in the strong safety of Jackson, and given that Sterns are usually in the team’s dime package, it’s possible that fellow rookie Jamar Johnson or Essang Bassey could get some work in the dime if Jackson doesn’t play. – Jeff Legold

Injury: knee
When Jones twisted the MCL on his right knee against the Seahawks on November 14, it was a safe bet he wouldn’t be back until after Week 13 of the Packers. But there is a chance that on Sunday he will play the Rams, the game before the Packers holiday week. He trained for three days in a row this week. Jones could help take the pressure off quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is playing despite his agonizing toe injury. Jones was listed as questionable, and when asked if the farewell would take into account the decision to play with Jones or any other injured player, coach Matt Lafleur said: “If a player is allowed to play, we’ll let him go. But you’re also aware of what you have.” in front of you.” – Rob Damofsky

Infection: COVID-19
It will be the Vikings’ line of defense without starting the trio of Tomlinson, who is on the Reserve/COVID-19 roster, and hard-line advocate Iverson Griffin, who is dealing with a mental health issue. Minnesota is weak on the defensive end, so expect Sheldon Richardson to kick off the field again against San Francisco. – Courtney Cronin

Injury: knee
The impressive rookie Patriots player arrived at the injury report for the first time this week as a limited participant in practice due to a knee. He warmed up with the team at the start of Friday’s rainy practice, so the illness he’s managing wasn’t enough to keep him out of that part of practice. He has been splitting the load with Damien Harris, and if a knee injury affects his availability on Sunday, RB JJ Taylor will be sophomore as a potential candidate for the position. – Mike Reese

Injury: knee
Wilson, who was about to start after missing four games, declared he was “100% healthy” for the Texas. He’s trained for the past 3 weeks (the first two weeks with the scout team), so it shouldn’t be too rusty. Everyone around the team said they expect Wilson, who was struggling at the time of the injury, to be mentally better than he was before. – Rich Semeny

Injury: concussion

Slay removed the concussion protocol after sustaining a head injury last week against the Saints. He was limited on Thursday and fully involved on Friday, which allowed him to be involved in setting up the game. Slay has been the Eagles’ top defensive player lately, scoring a relegation comeback in back-to-back games.

Running back Jordan Howard (knee) is the only player on the active roster who will be out on Sunday. – Tim McManus

Injury: finger, rib

Mitchell wasn’t able to play last week with a broken finger but he’s made enough progress this week to get involved and do practically everything except call. It’s officially listed as suspect in the injury report, an upgrade from questionable at this time last week. Coach Kyle Shanahan has indicated that the Niners have a plan in place to protect Mitchell’s finger, but that Mitchell’s situation will come down to his comfort level playing with the injury.

“He got better every day and was able to do everything except we kept the guys from hitting him,” Shanahan said. If Mitchell can’t go, find the Niners again to use a mix of Jeff Wilson Jr. And Trey Sermon, and yes, receiver Deebo Samuel off the field. – Nick Wagner

Injury: in the abdomen
Collins was listed as a limited participant on Friday. He has been regularly on a thigh injury report, but is now listed as an abdominal injury. Collins was the Seahawks’ primary choice with Chris Carson out this year, and now he’s backed up as well. Rashad Penny (hamstring) was listed as a non-participant for the second day in a row while Travis Homer (calf) went from limited to non-participant. – Brady Henderson

Injury: hamstring

Thomas is back in training this week for the first time since injuring his hamstring on the October 3 win over Atlanta. Washington has 21 days to revitalize from the injured reserve, but Thomas was moving well in practice on Friday while running the roads during the open to media portion. There is also a chance that Curtis Samuel will return, but he will be up to the surprise. There will be fewer restrictions on Thomas and there is optimism about his availability on Monday. He will return a big goal above the middle and in the red zone in particular. – John Kim
