Things were so problematic that Woods and McIlroy were the initiators of a meeting in which real solutions would be found. The PGA Tour made immediate changes; related to the competition system, but also the prize fund has been increased.
McIlroy emphasized that the main motive of LIV Golfers is the world-ranking points, which they don’t have in LIV Golf. “These guys don’t have to worry about that sort of stuff. They are here because their tour doesn’t give world-ranking points and this tour does.
So in my opinion, they shouldn’t be here, but the court ruling in July was they can be, so until that gets more in detail and in-depth, they can play and we can’t really do anything about that. I can voice my opinion, but it doesn’t change anything.”
McIlroy is ready to fight against LIV Golfer and other opponents, all with the goal of winning the title. “I’ll be trying to win a golf tournament regardless,” he said. “They are going to be pretty tired on Sunday; it will be the fourth day.”
