KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Virat Kohli and Babar Azam are two of the most successful cricketers today.
  • Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif copied Sir Alex Ferguson’s famous quote while making a cricketing analogy.
  • Latif said that he can win the World Cup with Babar Azam, Virat Kohli and 9 pieces of wood.

Legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had once said that he can win the Champions League with French footballer Zinedine Zidane and 10 pieces of wood. Former Pakistani cricketer Rashid Latif, taking inspiration from Sir Alex’s famous comment, has transformed this quote into cricketing terms using Virat Kohli and Babar Azam.

Kohli and Babar are two of the most popular and successful batters in world cricket. While Kohli has a World Cup title to his name, having lifted the trophy under MS Dhoni, back in 2011, Babar is yet to taste success when it comes to World Cups.

Both India and Pakistan have not earned the title of ‘world champions’ in a while. As coaches of both the teams continue to strive towards success, Latif feels he can win the World Cup with just Kohli and Babar in his team, along with 9 pieces of wood.

“Give me 10 pieces of wood and Zinedine Zidane and I’ll win the Champions League,” Sir Alex had once said. Using this quote in cricketing analogy, Rashid said: “Give me Babar Azam, Virat Kohli and nine pieces of wood and I will win you the World Cup.”

Rashid himself shared the video of this comment on Twitter. Here’s the video:

Babar and Virat have had quite successful tenures so far as cricketers for their respective countries. While Kohli has now left the captaincy of the Indian team in all three formats, it wasn’t long ago that Azam was appointed as Pakistan’s skipper in all three formats.
