Josh Giddey’s wagon continues to gather excited commuters, as the young Australian star produces a fifth double, a career high score and the best NBA quarterback to date.

Dropping two points off Sunday’s first triple-double of his career (AEDT), Jedi was a major offensive threat during the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 102-99 win over Memphis on Tuesday, ending his career with 19 points tied. 11 assists and five rebounds.

By the first inning, the Jedi already had 14 points to his name, including three three-pointers. Notably, all 14 of the Jedi’s points came in the second quarter as he achieved the first double-digit record quarter of his NBA career.

The ability to connect from deep has been a huge confidence booster for the 19-year-old, who has shot just 14.3 per cent from a three-point area in his previous eight games.

The Jedi then reignited the passing game in the third period, putting on field goals for Shay Gilgus Alexander, Lugittes Duert and Derek Vevers as the Thunder beat the Grizzlies during a period in which they outperformed the home team 58-44 across the second and third periods.

As the two teams battled for the top spot in the swinging fourth quarter, Jedi provided some crucial games in the final minutes, making a hat-trick from Kenrich Williams before making a cool run with 50 seconds left.

Then with the Thunder leading by just a point 17.9 seconds before, Giddey tricked the Grizzlies’ defense with a clever pass inside the bounds to the cut-off Gilgeous-Alexander, who ended play with a dipping.

“I told the guys when I got out of the bounds: ‘Be prepared because I’m going to throw those balls into the ring,'” Jedi told the host announcer after the match.

“I told Shay: ‘They’re going to overplay you, so just cut the ring and you get two points. “

“They trust me because I’m committed and that’s why I’m obligated to make plays like that.”

Along with 19 points, Jedi finished with 11 assists, outpacing the 10 he made against the Lakers in October and the Clippers on Sunday. He became the first Thunder rookie to achieve 10 consecutive assist games since Russell Westbrook in 2009.

According to ESPN, Giddey became the second teen in NBA history to have 20 rebounds and 20 assists in two games, and join the LaMelo Ball.

When asked after the match why he could attack, Jedi said, “Just keep your confidence. I mean the shots didn’t fall in the first quarter, but I stayed with them.”

“My buddies got me on semi-good screens, which changed a few things in the second quarter. We made some adjustments to the team and that allowed me freedom.”

After the match, Williams described Jedi as a “special talent”.

“It’s amazing to watch Josh grow as a player,” Williams told reporters.

“The future is very bright for him. Very happy to have him in our team.”
