‘It’s too soon’ – Raducanu pulls out of key Australian Open warm-up event

‘It’s too early’ – Emma Radocano withdraws from the Australian Open main warm-up event

Emma Radocano has pulled out of the Melbourne summer group claiming she is not yet ready to resume competition.

Raducanu was due to play in the event as a warm-up for the Australian Open, which begins on January 17.

However, the US Open champion chose to skip the event instead.

It’s the latest in a highly turbulent closing season for the 19-year-old.

She was due to play at an exhibition event in Abu Dhabi last month but had to withdraw after contracting COVID-19.

“The timing of the competition for the first event in Melbourne this week is too early for me, having just come back from seclusion,” explained Radocano.

There was better news for Raducanu though, as she earned an MBE on the UK New Year’s Honor Roll in recognition of her stunning victory at the US Open last year.

The Australian Open will be only Raducanu’s third Grand Slam tournament and her first event at Down Under.
