India Women Team To Tour Sri Lanka Ahead Of Commonwealth Games 2022

India women’s cricket team is expected to tour Sri Lanka to play limited-overs fixtures in the upcoming months en route to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022.

This will be the first instance for the Women in Blue to play after missing the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 knockout berth by a whisker.

India women team to travel Sri Lanka next month to play limited-overs matches

According to a report by Times of India, Indian women’s team will play three ODIs and as many T20 Internationals in the island nation in the June-July period.

“The team will arrive in Sri Lanka on June 18. The first ODI is scheduled to take place on June 23, while the first T20I will be held on July 3. The tour will end with the last T20I on July 7,” a BCCI source told Times of India.

BCCI isn’t worried about the unrest situation in Sri Lanka amid political turmoil and economic crisis. The India board cited Australia men’s team tour as the example to allow the Indian women’s side to play in the island nation.

Even the Australian men’s cricket team is touring Lanka around the same time. So cricket shouldn’t be affected by that,” the source said.

India are paired with Australia, Barbados, and Pakistan in the inaugural edition of Women’s T20I tournament in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The tournament will be held between July 29 and August 8, where eight teams will participate and will be divided into two groups – four teams in each.

India women team to play against England after Commonwealth Games

After the CWG 2022, India will play three T20 Internationals against England followed by three ODIs, the final game of the tour will be held at the Lord’s on September 24.

There won’t be any Test match between the two teams as England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) are planning to host the second edition of Women’s Hundred during that period.

The BCCI requested the  English Cricket Board to schedule a Test, but ECB couldn’t accede to the request, citing a busy schedule, which includes the ‘Hundred’ too, for them,” the source mentioned.
