I’m my own psychologist now

Aryna Sabalenka says she is now her own psychologist In the offseason she decided to stop working with a sports psychologist after realizing it wasn’t really helping her and that only she could fix her problems. Sabalenka, 24, is off to her best-ever start to a season as she is 10-0 and through to her first Grand Slam final at the Australian Open.

“To be honest, I decided to stop working with a psychologist. I realized that nobody than me will help, you know? Yeah, on the preseason I spoke to my psychologist saying, like, ‘Listen, I feel like I have to deal’ with that by myself, because every time hoping that someone will fix my problem, it’s not fixing my problem.’

I just have to take this responsibility and I just have to deal with that. Yeah, I’m not working with a psychologist anymore. I’m my psychologist,” Sabalenka revealed, per Musab Abid.

Sabalenka ousted Magda Linette to reach the Australian Open final

After winning Adelaide in her first tournament of the year, Sabalenka also continued her strong form at the Australian Open as she is 10-0 after beating Linette 7-6 (1) 6-2.

On Thursday, Sabalenka made a slow start to her Australian Open semifinal as Linette broke the Belarusian to love in the very first game of the match. However, Linette’s lead was short-lived as Sabalenka broke back in the fourth game.

As not a single break point was seen in the rest of the first set, the opener was resolved in a tie-break. In the tie-break, Sabalenka took a comfortable 6-0 lead before converting her second set point to win a tight opener.

After losing the first set, Linette served out the first game of the second set. Then, Sabalenka went on a big run as she claimed back-to-back breaks and won five games in a row to open a 5-1 lead. Sabalenka missed out on three match points in the seventh game but realized her fourth match point in the following game. Sabalenka plays Elena Rybakina in the Australian Open final.
