Many cricketers were inspired with MS Dhoni’s World Cup-winning six in 2011.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  1. MS Dhoni smashed a six over long on to clinch the 2011 World Cup
  2. The shot by the former captain is an iconic moment in Indian cricket
  3. It also inspired several aspiring Indian cricketers
MS Dhoni smashing Sri Lankan all-rounder Nuwan Kulasekara for a six over long off to win the 2011 World Cup for India is a memory that would forever be etched in the mind of every Indian cricket fan. Just like Kapil Dev did in 1983, Dhoni inspired many aspiring Indian cricketers after ending India’s 28-year wait for a World Cup trophy in the 50-over format.
Out of the many cricketers who were inspired with Dhoni’s six, is Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer Akash Deep – who made his debut for the Faf du Plessis-led side in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
Akash Deep, who received his debut IPL cap from ex-RCB skipper Virat Kohli in the 15th edition, recalled how he would see the likes of Dhoni and Kohli on TV while growing up and would dream of meeting his superheroes someday.

“That World Cup moment stirred interest in me. As a kid, when we used to watch the likes of Kohli and Dhoni on TV, I used to think whether I would ever get a chance to meet them in my life. In my mind, they were like superheroes. And from the place I come from, in my wildest imagination, I never thought that someday, I would end up sharing the dressing room with Kohli. Sab sapna hai (Everything is a dream),” Akash Deep told Indian Express.

Deep played five matches in IPL 2022 for RCB where he claimed as many wickets.

Deep also said he was shocked to know that Kohli knew about his background as well as his struggle.
