India edged past Canada 3-2 in a thriller Pool A game to secure a semifinal berth in the women’s hockey event of the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. Goals from Salima Tete, Navneet Kaur, and Lalremsiami gave the team the crucial win in a hard-fought encounter against Canada. It was a stunning effort from the Indian women’s team who kept their composure even as the opposite team was looking to mount fightbacks at regular intervals. They will now face Australia in the semi-final match on August 5, 2022. India lost the bronze medal match in Gold Coast, four years ago but Savita Punia’s team will want to push ahead and finish on the final step of the podium.
