In the ongoing Test match between the two sides, the cricketing world witness a deja-vu of the incident during the final session on the third play of play (Saturday, June 4th). With England skipper Stokes on the non-striker’s end, former captain Joe Root pulled a delivery from Trent Boult. Although, it looked like the ball was heading towards the boundary, it was fielded brilliantly by the Kiwi player and thrown back on to the bowler’s end.

Stokes who thought about taking a run was immediately sent back by Root. While the star all-rounder reached the crease back on time, the throw hit his bat and deflected for an overthrow taking back the memories of everyone on the field and the commentary box to 14th July, 2019.

In the last over of the 2019 WC final with England needing nine runs to win of three, Stokes had desperately dived to complete a dive and the throw deflected of Stokes’ bat to the boundary. As the hosts had already run two runs, they were awarded a total of six runs from the ball. Ultimately, the match ended in a dramatic tie and Eoin Morgan-led side won the game in the super over on the basis of having scored more boundaries in the game.

However, this time around, Stokes did not benefit from the incident nor did he take advantage and try sneaking a single. In the aftermath of the incident, Stokes and Kiwi pacer Boult were seen having a good laugh about it.
