In the last over of the 2019 WC final with England needing nine runs to win of three, Stokes had desperately dived to complete a dive and the throw deflected of Stokes’ bat to the boundary. As the hosts had already run two runs, they were awarded a total of six runs from the ball. Ultimately, the match ended in a dramatic tie and Eoin Morgan-led side won the game in the super over on the basis of having scored more boundaries in the game.
However, this time around, Stokes did not benefit from the incident nor did he take advantage and try sneaking a single. In the aftermath of the incident, Stokes and Kiwi pacer Boult were seen having a good laugh about it.
Talking about the match, England are chasing a massive total of 278 in the fourth innings with Stokes and Root leading the charge. The England skipper scored his first half-century since taking over the top job.
